Windermere - Rails, Sails & Tails

The sheer beauty of the Lake District has inspired poets and artists for centuries, and the area needs little introduction. We feature a variety of interesting excursions, in particular Windermere Lake Cruise, World of Beatrix Potter and Holker Hall and Gardens.

 

Your Itinerary

Monday 3rd: We travel north via Southport leaving after time for lunch to the Lake District
with time to enjoy the hotel facilities before dinner this evening.

Tuesday 4th: Rails, Sails & Tails! - After a leisurely full English breakfast, we travel to Haverthwaite for our journey on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway to Bowness-on- Windermere. Here we join Lakeside Cruises for our journey from Lakeside Pier to Bowness, where the rest of the day is at leisure to explore this bustling lakeside town. Also included is a visit to World of Beatrix Potter! We return to the hotel for dinner. 

Wednesday 5th: Holker Hall - After a full English breakfast, we head south for our visit to Holker Hall and Gardens, home of the Cavendish family. Holker Hall is set in exceptionally beautiful countryside with gardens that merge into parkland framed by the Lakeland hills. Highlights of the house include The Gallery, The Library, The Drawing Room and Queen Mary’s Bedroom. The immaculately kept gardens, 25 acres in all, are part woodland and part formal garden and highlights include The Great Holker Lune, an awe-inspiring tree measuring 7.9m in girth! We enjoy also enjoy free time in Ulverston before returning to the hotel.

Thursday 6th: Keswick & Ullswater - After breakfast today, we travel to Keswick. For a small town, Keswick has a range of shops and services far larger than might be expected! We return via beautiful Ullswater, for free time in Windermere before dinner.

Friday 7th: A morning visit to Kendal with its castle ruins, quaint cobbled streets, antique shops, the K Village shopping outlet and the chance to purchase the famous ‘Kendal Mintcake’. We leave Kendal after lunch for our journey home.

Cumbria Grand Hotel***, Grange-Over-Sands

Set in 20 acres of private gardens and woodlands overlooking Morecambe Bay, this charming Victorian hotel is only six miles from Lake Windermere. There is an outdoor tennis court and putting green and woodland walk as well as indoor games room with a full sized snooker table, table tennis and darts.
