Your Itinerary
Sunday 19th: We travel north via the motorways to our hotel for check-in.
Monday 20th: This morning we have a private guided tour around the World Heritage accredited, world-famous Norman Cathedral. Access will be given to visit the Cathedral’s Open Treasure exhibit – displaying some of the Cathedral’s fascinating collections acquired over the centuries. The visitor experience has been transformed with access to some of the Cathedral’s most spectacular spaces within the Claustral buildings; journeys through the 14th century Monk’s Dormitory, through the Collections Gallery with a fascinating rolling programme of exhibitions, and finishing in the monastic. The remainder of the day will be free in Durham.
Tuesday 21st: Today we visit the award-winning, internationally acclaimed Beamish Open Air Museum which is a truly unforgettable experience. Set in over 300 acres of beautiful countryside, we turn the clocks back and remember how things used to be as Beamish vividly recreates life as it was in the Great North in the early 1800’s and 1900’s. Visit Pockerley with its stunning manor house and railway, and take a tram ride through a real Edwardian market town with its beautifully rebuilt houses and shops. You can also visit Home Farm, wander around the Pit Village and even enjoy a ride on an old carousel.
Wednesday 22nd: This morning we travel in style and embrace a more leisurely pace on a Rivershack Cruise on the Tees. With its vibrant atmosphere, the Juno meanders downriver riding the ebb and flow of the River Tees. Discover the historic Tees Valley landscape and witness the stunning panorama of the rolling Tees countryside. This afternoon we spend some free time in Whitby, a quaint old fishing town where local fishermen can still be seen mending their nets outside their cottages.
Thursday 23rd: We leave our hotel after breakfast and return home.
