Friday 4th: We make our way into Scotland with suitable refreshment stops along the way to our hotel for check-in.
Saturday 5th: We begin with a walk in the beautiful Drummond Castle Gardens- used as the Palace of Versailles in the TV show Outlander, these magnificent formal gardens were once described by Queen Victoria as ‘Very fine, like an old French garden’. Next is Glenturret distillery, which claims to be the oldest working distillery in Scotland. This is a sweet, light and lovingly produced whisky perfect for summer evenings. We are introduced to the ancient Scottish arts of unhurried flavours before finishing with a wee dram- a fully matured tasting.
Sunday 6th: Glamis Castle, the childhood home of the Queen Mother, HM Queen Elizabeth, and one of the most beautiful castles in Scotland is the star of our second day. Expert guides will lead us through historic state rooms as we marvel at majestic traditions. Finally we soak in the heady scents of the gardens in free flow access to the distinctive quartet. In the afternoon we have free time in Perth, gateway to the Highlands.
Monday 7th: With the lingering taste of summer gardens, we head to Scotland’s sunniest city Dundee for the first benefactor of the Unicorn Preservation Society. HMS Unicorn is the third oldest ship afloat in the world and the last intact warship from the age of sail. Step aboard for a guided tour and learn why an ‘ordinary’ ship can be extra-ordinary! Follow this with free time in the lovely recently regenerated waterfront city of Dundee. Explore the only other V & A museum anywhere in the world outside of London, have a photo with Oor Willie in Albert Square or perhaps a genuine Dundee cake.
Tuesday 8th: After breakfast we leave our hotel and make our journey home.
