Thursday 14th: We travel north with suitable refreshment stops along the way and checkin
at the Holiday Inn Gosforth Park.
Friday 15th: Today we visit Belsay Hall and Gardens. Take in 30 acres of picturesque
landscaping, including magnificent rhododendrons, and see forever changing seasonal
delights. Enter the magical and romantic Quarry Garden with ravines, pinnacles and sheer
rock faces inspired by the quarries of Sicily. Wander the unfurnished rooms of Belsay Hall
and discover the stark architecture. Included in your visit is a 5-10 minute introductory talk,
2 hour guided tour with the Head Gardener (if available) and a cream tea. We return to our
hotel via Newcastle upon Tyne.
Saturday 16th: Travel in style and embrace a more leisurely pace on a Rivershack Cruise
on the Tees. Embarking from either Preston Park with its vibrant atmosphere,
the Juno meanders downriver riding the ebb and flow of the River Tees. Discover the
historic Tees Valley landscape and witness the stunning panorama of the rolling Tees
countryside. Following our cruise, we are then free to explore the delightful historic city
of Durham most famous for its grand Norman-era Durham Cathedral.
Sunday 17th: Today we visit Washington Old Hall in the heart of historic Washington
village. This picturesque stone manor house and its gardens provide a tranquil oasis,
reflecting gentry life following the turbulence of the English Civil War. Enjoy walking through
the gardens of Washington and discover the dramatic century parterre and the wilds of the
nuttery. Includes introductory talk, 1.5 hour guided tour and free flow visit of Washington
Monday 18th: We leave after breakfast and return home
