Sunday 26th: We travel south with suitable stops en-route before arriving at the Hilton
Avisford Park.
Monday 27th: To St Mary’s House & Gardens where we have a guided tour of the
enchanting and historic 15th century timber-framed house. Still a lived in home, there are
fine panel rooms including the unique Elizabethan trompe l’oeil painted room. There is then
free time to explore the 5 acre garden set in the picturesque award winning downland
village of Bramber. In the afternoon we visit the seaside resort of Worthing.
Tuesday 28th: To Lewes which is set in the South Downs National Park and boasts a
wealth of cafes and pubs plus independent shops including its numerous antique and
antiquarian book shops. Later we spend free time in Arundel itself, a picturesque town full
of history and heritage. Plus of course the impressive cathedral.
Wednesday 29th: We recreate the golden age of steam with a 1hr 45 minute return ride
on the Bluebell Railway through the heart of the beautiful Sussex Weald. Watch as the
various stations transform to show different periods of the railway’s life. Later we visit
Borde Hill for a 1 hour guided tour of their gardens. The heritage garden is renowned for its
rare shrubs and champion trees plus it has been recently transformed with herbaceous
plantings for summer colour.
Thursday 30th: After a leisurely breakfast we begin our journey home.
