Thursday 23rd: Morning departure from your home area travelling to East Anglia via
Market Harbour for a lunch stop, before continuing on to the Marks Tey Hotel. 4 nights stay
- dinner, bed and breakfast. Welcome drink on arrival.
Friday 24th: We will enjoy a full day ‘step-on’ guided tour of Constable Country, including
Dedham Vale, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the area where John
Constable lived and created most of his paintings, the chocolate-box village of Lavenham,
England’s finest medieval village, and Sudbury, birthplace of Thomas Gainsborough.
Saturday 25th: After breakfast we travel to the delightful medieval market town of Saffron
Walden. A market has been held here since 1141, with market day on Saturdays. Don’t
miss the beautiful Bridge End Garden, a restored Victorian garden with a wonderful yew
hedge maze and sunken Dutch Garden. We continue on to historic Bury St.Edmunds,
famous for its Abbey Gardens and the Angel Hotel, where Dickens had Mrs Pickwick stay.
Sunday 26th: This morning we visit the breathtaking Beth Chatto Gardens created by ten
times Chelsea Gold Medal winner, Beth Chatto. The gardens remain a family-run business
managed by Beth’s grandaughter, Julia Boulton. We spend the rest of the day in
Colchester, the oldest recorded town in the country. From a Roman Temple, Norman
Castle and medieval timber framed houses to Victorian architectural splendour, there
is plenty for us to explore at our leisure.
Monday 27th: After breakfast we leave and begin our homeward journey.
