Monday 21st: We depart travelling across country to our base on the outskirts of Ipswich
with time to relax before dinner.
Tuesday 22nd: Today we take a tour covering the historic towns of Bury St Edmunds, Diss
and Thetford. Bury St Edmunds was once the capital of East Anglia and the town and
surrounding area are full of history and is a lovely mediaeval market town.
Wednesday 23rd: Today we head first for the historic town of Lavenham with pretty
coloured houses and unique Guildhall. We have time to explore and enjoy a coffee before
we move on to historic Roman Colchester for some free time and chance to obtain lunch.
The oldest town in England boasts a wide “boulevard” as a main street, with many
interesting pedestrian shopping malls and lanes with specialist shops. At one end of the
street is beautiful Castle Park, complete with the largest Norman Keep ever constructed,
riverside walks and pleasant gardens.
Thursday 24th: We begin today with a ride through picturesque villages to Snape and
Aldeburgh, where we take a break. Aldeburgh is something of a time warp, with Victorian
houses on the seashore, an attractive main street taking you to the marina. We continue
on to Southwold, a charmingly old fashioned seaside town with an atmosphere of years
gone by. From here we return south to Woodbridge, a thriving old town on the River Deben
with an attractive market place.
Friday 25th: After breakfast, we are off to the famous University City of Cambridge. The
city has many fascinating attractions, not least of which the many university colleges and
the famous court house. You could also enjoy a river punt! We depart early afternoon for
our journey homeward.
