Friday 4th: We travel to Bakewell. The town is best known for its delicious Bakewell
Pudding. This afternoon our walking tour follows the Monsal Trail passing through popular
beauty spots, including the beautiful valleys of Monsal Dale and Millers Dale and historic
geological and industrial sites including Victorian railway tunnels and the magnificent
Headstone Viaduct built over the River Wye. Total walking is approx. 7.5 miles.
Saturday 5th: Today we have a rambling tour of the Peak District, starting from Dovedale
our walk today will concentrate on the southern White Peak area of the Peak District and
the incomparable sylvan valley of Dove Dale. The natural beauty of this dale makes this
walk a must with the meandering river Dove and dramatic towering masses of limestone
crags with equally impressive names such as Dovedale Castle Rocks, Twelve Apostles
and Tissington Spires appearing as an almost continuous gorge. The walk follows ‘public
rights of way’ and will be at a generous, unhurried pace allowing you time to appreciate the
spectacular scenery. Total walking is approx. 7 miles.
Sunday 6th: This morning we will take a gentle morning walk around the grounds of
Chatsworth House and will take us through a mix of man-made and natural landscape
across hill pastures, woodland, lakes and riverside on good paths and forest trail. This
afternoon entry into the magnificent Chatsworth House, with over 30 rooms to explore, will
be included. Total walking is approx. 5 miles. Following our visit we return home.
A good pair of waterproof walking boots, together with outdoor, breathable and waterproof
clothing is strongly recommended.
