Thursday 7th: We travel to Southport which has beautiful beaches, stunning architecture,
one of the oldest piers in the UK along with a superb choice of shops.
Friday 8th: We visit Browsholme Hall, the oldest surviving family home in Lancashire and
ancestral home of the Parker Family. There will be tea, coffee and biscuits on arrival
followed by an introductory talk and approx. 60 minute guided tour of the house with an
experienced guide and free time to explore the rest of the property. We then travel to
Rawtenstall for a 45 minute rail journey to Bury enjoying a voyage through rich landscapes
on one of the UK’s best kept heritage railways. On arrival in Bury we visit the Bury
Transport Museum, once a former goods warehouse it provides a fascinating glimpse into
the world of transport from the age of steam to the present day.
Saturday 9th: Our tour of the Ribble Valley starts at Clitheroe and our first stop is the
village of Downham (famous for the film Whistle Down the Wind and the BBC series Born
and Bred). We continue to Stoneyhurst College, Jeffrey Hill and then to the award winning
village of Chipping where lunch can be taken. We then visit the villages of Dunsop Bridge,
home of the Eagle Owls. Finally we head to the village of Newton followed by a stopover at
Slaidburn before returning to our hotel.
Sunday 10th: We visit Lancaster, one of England’s heritage cities. Dominated by its
medieval castle and the River Lune that runs through the city, discover narrow Georgian
streets and stunning architecture, before experiencing a delightful canal cruise. We then
travel to Morecambe, stroll along the award winning promenade, take in the sea air and
admire the coastal view towards the Lakeland Fells.
Monday 11th: We leave our hotel after breakfast for a morning visit to Blackpool where
time will be given for lunch before we return home.
