Monday 04th: Depart from your home area in the morning travelling to Cumbria via the Lake District where a stop will be made for lunch, before arriving late afternoon at the Crown & Mitre Hotel where you will be welcomed with tea/coffee and biscuits on arrival.
Tuesday 05th: Today we follow the path of Hadrian’s Wall, which stretches 76miles from The Tyne to The Solway. We take a short break at Once Brewed Visitor Centre before continuing to Hexham. The town is dominated by the abbey with its ancient architectural treasures, spectacular interior and stained glass that overlooks the market square. Here we have time for lunch and chance to explore before we return by train to Carlisle along the Tyne Valley.
Wednesday 06th: We have a free day in the historic border city of Carlisle. The city has lots to offer, Carlisle Cathedral, Carlisle Castle and museums.
Thursday 07th: This morning we travel into the Yorkshire Dales to Kirkby Lonsdale, where we have time to explore and relax. Then we travel on past the immense Ribblehead Viaduct through Horton-in-Ribblesdale to Settle. This afternoon we take in the most spectacular train journey on a main line railway in the whole of England - the famous Settle to Carlisle line. Towering viaducts, bridges, long deep tunnels, lovingly kept station gardens all help to make this one of the best loved lines in the country.
Friday 08th: We leave our hotel after breakfast, making our way home travelling through the Lake District, we will take a break for lunch in Morcambe before continuing home, arriving late afternoon.
