Monday 4th: We make our way south to Folkestone for check-in at the Burlington Hotel.
Tuesday 5th: After breakfast, we travel to Dover Castle, which has stood guard over the
shortest sea crossing between England and the continent for nearly a thousand years. We
can then take a fascinating guided tour of the authentic Underground Hospital and re-live
the tension as a surgeon battles to save an injured pilot. Please note: The upper floor of
the Great Tower has steep flights of narrow steps and there are some very steep slopes
and cobbled walkways within the grounds, however a land train is available for guests with
limited ability. After our time at the castle we will return to our hotel, making a stop en route
to the Battle of Britain Memorial in Capel-le-Ferne.
Wednesday 6th: This morning, we travel to the picturesque market town of Tenterden. Its
fine high street must rank amongst the most attractive in the country with historic houses,
shops, restaurants and pubs. We will enjoy a guided tour and tasting at the award winning
Old Dairy Brewery housed in two old world war II nissan buildings just moments from the
high street. We have time to browse the brewery shop before we stroll a few yards for a
return steam train journey to Bodiam with the Kent & East Sussex Railway whilst enjoying
a delicious ploughman’s lunch. After our rail journey, we will have time to explore Tenterden
before heading back to our hotel.
Thursday 7th: We will visit the historic city of Canterbury. We will visit the cathedral and
discover its fascinating history whilst admiring its magnificent architectural splendour. We
will then spend the afternoon at leisure, exploring the city centre with its quaint medieval
and Tudor buildings, interesting shops and wonderful selection of tea rooms and
restaurants before returning to our hotel.
Friday 8th: After breakfast we will depart our hotel and make our way home.
